![]() RECALLING ALSO resolution A.380(X) by which it adopted the Standard Marine Navigational Vocabulary, ![]() there has to be a "line in the sand", but no cop in his right mind is going to pull someone over for 1 mph over the speed limit.RECALLING Article 15(j) of the Convention on the International Maritime Organization concerning the functions of the Assembly in relation to regulations and guidelines concerning maritime safety, ![]() "Technically" wrong, but probably still fine. I think "technically it should be the last thing you say, but again in real world, people often say goodbye, identify, then proceed to talk for another minute or two, then don't identify again. Then you are supposed to identify when closing out your conversation. if you identified every 12 minutes, or 15 minutes, nobody would say a damn thing. But if I am dropping in on a couple of buddy's conversation I might say what I'm going to say and end the sentence with my callsign.įrom there, "technically" you need to identify again before 10 minutes has passed, but again, its not like someone is sitting there with a timer. and etiquette dictates when trying to break into an existing conversation you would wait for a lull and just say your callsign. If you are calling for someone, you would throw your callsign in. If you read the wording it seems like you "technically" don't have to identify when you start talking at all, at least not until you hit the 10 minute mark, but most people identify NEAR the start of the conversation. Hell we have gmrs users who think they are on cb and never do till we give them crap. Sadly, a lot of people don't bother with anything but the initial. Just throw it out on the initial contact. It's not a difficult requirement, don't stress about it. There is no automated machine that will throw out a cw version of your callsigns for average use that I know of for There could be, just don't know of one. It often interferes with other repeaters or conversations. Although, a gmrs repeater in my area does this. Gmrs repeaters do not need to identify, so you don't hear it often on gmrs. The automated cw call signs are usually repeaters. Now if uou are in a net it is better to wait your turn, since having every one throw out their callsigns every 10 minutes would be disruptive. Remeber we are not allowed to talk to a non-licenesed station. If the conversation is short, less then 10 minutes. No, it means every 10 minutes during a conversation you need to be sending your callsign out. You get to a point where you can rattle it off super fast and it’s no extra breath or thought to say it all the time. I just say my call sign from time to time. Some radios can do this when you let off the ptt key, some people use apps on their phone, I don’t mess with all that auto stuff. A lot of times that’s the repeater to net identifier coming through as those are required to transmit their call sign at regular intervals too. In regards to the Morse code you are hearing. You wouldn’t break into a conversation just to say your call sign cause it’s been 10 mins. You need to know these rules but understand there’s plus and minus in the real world. I say “out” so I’m formally closing the conversation. Some end with “out” or “off” or just stop talking after the call sign. ![]() It would end something like “alright mike I’ll talk to you some other time buddy. ![]() In that hour we will have said our call sign 5-6 times and then when we are done chatting and say goodbye. You and I start chatting, we are talking it up for an hour. As long as you say your call sign regularly it’s fine. ![]()
